– The Eastern Michigan University softball team wound up winless on the day as they dropped the night cap, 3-1, to St. Francis University (Pa.) at the FGCU Softball Complex Saturday evening, Feb. 27. The Eagles fall to 1-2 on the season while St. Francis (Pa.) improves to 2-6.

Jenny Scherer hit her first home run of the season and the 37th of her career. Unfortunately, it was the only run the Eagles were able to muster against the Red Flashes. Her long ball came with two outs in the sixth inning and was one of five hits on the night for the Green and White.

Jenna Ignowski received her second consecutive start after her first one, which occurred earlier in the day against Minnesota, was rain-shortened. She was very strong, going the distance and allowing just five hits while striking out six batters and walking just one. However, her counterpart, St. Francis pitcher Megan Layne, stymied the EMU offense, holding them to just five hits and striking out four without surrendering a walk. She limited the Eagles' chances as EMU left just three runners on base.

The Red Flash got on the board first when Taylor Darnielle singled home Christina Aulbach, who pinch ran for Heather Stiglich who doubled with one out in the inning. It was the only extra base hit of the game for the Red Flashes. St. Francis added two insurance runs in the sixth inning when Karlie Miller singled home a pair of runs.

There were changes to the tournament schedule due to the rain that affected the Eagles contest with Minnesota earlier in the day. The Eagles will now face Georgia Southern at 11 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 28, instead of 1 p.m. In that 1 p.m. slot, they will take on Villanova, which they defeated in the season opener, 13-5, Friday night. They will not face Connecticut, which they were originally scheduled to play at 11 a.m. Sunday, but will face the Huskies in the FAU “Miken” Classic March 7.

Florida Gulf Coast University sports information will be providing live stats for each of tomorrow's games. A link to live stats can be found at EMUEagles.com by clicking the live stats link next to each game under the schedule calendar on the home page.
