Women's Swimming and Diving Falls To The RedHawks

OXFORD, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team fell to Miami 95.5 to 193.5 in Mid-American Conference dual-meet action today, Nov. 6, in Oxford, Ohio. The Eagles now fall to 0-3 on the year, while the RedHawks move to 3-1.
Briana Emig (Sweickley, Pa.-Ambridge) continued to impress for the Eagles, as she took first in three events on the day. Emig was the first to touch the wall in the 1,000 freestyle, recording a time of 10:17.14. She also surpassed Miami's Kelsey Vehr in the 500 free to clinch the top spot at 5:02.74. Her third first place finish of the afternoon came in the 400 individual medley after posting a time of 4:35.03. Following Emig was teammate Jacquelyn Swartz (Centerville, Ohio-Centerville) who took second in the event(4:35.22), while Wesley Blassneck (Marco Island, Fla.-Lely) rounded out the top three at 4:47.81.
In the 100 backstroke, Sarah Maraskine (Midland, Mich.-Dow) finished in 57.98 landing her in second, and she also had a third place effort in the 200 backstroke (2:09.94). Maraskine also joined teammates Sarah Kowalski (Muncie, Ind.-Yorktown), Paige Copeland (Fishers, Ind.-Hamilton Southeastern), and Tracy Morgan (Strongsville, Ohio-Strongsville), whose combined efforts led to a first place finish in the 200 free relay at 1:40.60.
Kowalski also boasted a second place finish time of 24.20 in the 50 freestyle. She also took second in the 100 freestyle after touching the wall at 52.38.
The Green and White will return to action when they head to Purdue next Friday, Nov. 12. The co-ed meet is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.
