Women's Swimming and Diving Suffers 198-97 Loss To Purdue

Briana Emig leads Eagles with top finish in 1,000 freestyle

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team fell to Purdue this evening, 198-97, in a non-conference dual-meet in West Lafayette, Ind.
Briana Emig (Sewickley, Pa.-Ambridge) has been a consistent force for the Eagles, taking first in the 1,000 freestyle in 10:14.73. She also took second in the 500 free when she was first to touch the wall at the 5:02.62 mark. In the 200 free, Emig also scored for the Green and White after finishing fourth in 1:55.50.
In the 200 Individual Medley, Jacquelyn Swartz (Centerville, Ohio-Centerville) took first place after posting a top time of 2:09.68. She also took third in the 100 butterfly in 2:07.76.
Senior captain Sarah Kowalski (Muncie, Ind.-Yorktown) took second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 52.51 and also placed third in the 50 free in 24.29.
Sarah Maraskine (Midland, Mich.-Dow) was also a contributor in the 100 backstroke, recording a time of 59.07 en route to a third place finish. She also took third in both the 200 back and 200 IM finishing in 2:10.97 and 2:15.71, respectively.
On the one-meter boards, Lesley Vizurraga (Grand Rapids, Mich.-Forest Hills Central) led the Eagles with her second place finish scoring 270.60 points. In third was teammate Kelly Hendricks (Schaumburg, Ill.-Conant) who posted 246.75 points in the event.
The Eagles will return to action when they host the Eastern Michigan Invitational on Dec. 3 at 3:30 p.m. The two day invite will feature teams from Bowling Green, Wayne State, Findlay, Michigan State, Waterloo, Toledo, Michigan, IUPUI, and Ball State.
