Windy Conditions Make Scores Soar In Final Round In Texas

AUSTIN, Texas (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team wrapped up competition at the Challenge at Onion Creek, Tuesday, Nov. 2, here at the par-70 Onion Creek Golf Club in Austin, Texas. For the 54-hole event, the Eagles shot a cumulative total of 932 (308-297-327) for 14th place.
The winds blew and the scores soared on the final day of the Challenge at Onion Creek. Only one team was able to break 300 as winds gusted up to 20 mph throughout the round, with the University of Arkansas-Little Rock posting a 297.
Winning the tournament was No. 31 Iowa State, who finished with a score of 884 287-288-309. Individually, Denver's Tonje Daffinrud and UALR's Megan Vaughn shared top honors, finishing with a score of four-over 214. For the Eagles, redshirt freshman Alyssa Kwon (Richmond Hills, Ontario-Richmond Hills) was the highest finisher, coming in tied for 29th with a score of 227 (73-72-83).
Coastal Carolina University, the 36-hole leader, shot a final-round 325 to finish tied for seventh, opening the door for Iowa State University to capture the title at 884, three strokes better than UALR. The University of Michigan, tied with Iowa State heading into the final round, shot a 324 and fell into a tie for seventh with CCU.
The event wraps up the fall season for the Green and White, who now will focus on individual performances over the winter, in preparation for the spring season, which begins Feb. 13-14 in Victoria, Texas with the Claud Jacobs Challenge.
