Volleyball to host annual “Dig Pink” fundraiser, Oct. 16, to support breast cancer awareness

YPSILANTI (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team is once again gearing up for the fight against breast cancer, hosting its annual “Dig Pink” match Saturday, Oct. 16, against Bowling Green State University. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Convocation Center. Pink will be the new green as the Eagles will wear pink jerseys and fans are encouraged to sport the color as part of a “pink-out” inside the Convocation Center.
Over the past three seasons, EMU Volleyball has raised over $12,000 for breast cancer research. All proceeds from the event will once again go to support the Side-Out Foundation.
Leading up to the event, fans can make donations online at EMUEagles.com. Donations will also be accepted at the match and will include the opportunity to bid on silent auction items, as well as purchase “Dig Pink” t-shirts and mini-volleyballs. All fans will receive a pink silly-band in the form of a breast cancer ribbon upon entering the arena.
Prior to the Eagles' home match against Northern Illinois, Oct. 9, fans will receive a “Dig Pink” piggy-bank. Fans who bring their piggy-bank back to the Oct. 16 match with any amount of money in it for donation will not only receive free admission, but also a concessions voucher redeemable for a free hot dog and soda.
To date, over $4,000 has been raised during this year's campaign, highlighted by a $2,500 donation from the EMU men's basketball team and head coach Charles E. Ramsey.
