Tennis Wraps Up at Air Force Invite

Seven wins caps tourney
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. –The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team closed out a long weekend in Colorado with seven wins, Sunday, Oct. 3, at the Air Force Invitational.
The Eagles entered the day with five third place matches (all singles) and five fifth place finishes (one singles, three doubles) on the line. EMU turned in successful outcomes in six of the ten, including all six singles matches.
Senior Xu Chang had the most impressive of all the Eagle wins as she closed out her match with a quick 6-2, 6-1 victory over Iowa State's Tessa Lang. Mariya Toncheva, Marcela Rivero, Celine Donnet and Georgia de'Lisle-Tarr each won their matches in three sets.
In doubles, freshman Nino Mebuke teamed up with Westerink to defeat an Air Force duo, 9-8.
“Our doubles was subpar today,” said EMU Head Coach Ryan Ray. “However, the fact that we won all five of our three-set matches was impressive. We converted four 3rd place singles finishes, and now we will get back to work for the regional in a few weeks.”
The Eagles next action will be at the ITA Midwest Regional in Ann Arbor, Mich., Oct 21-23.
