Women's Swimming and Diving Edged By Ball State

Briana Emig records three first-place finishes to lead the Eagles this afternoon

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving dropped their Mid-American Conference match up against Ball State this afternoon. EMU was outscored by the Cardinals 144-156, moving the Eagle's record to 0-2 in the MAC.
Briana Emig (Sewickley, Pa.-Ambridge) led the way for the Eagles, taking first in three events this afternoon. She dominated in the 1,000 freestyle as her time of 10:24.40 was good for first place. Emig also was first to touch the wall in the 200 freestyle at 1:52.89. In the 500 freestyle, she captured yet another top finish with a time of 5:02.52, placing her ahead of teammate Samantha Partridge (Carmel, Ind.-Carmel) who took second in the event at 5:09.39.
Sarah Maraskine (Midland, Mich.-Dow) also shined for the Green and White, as she took first place in the 100 backstroke posting a time of 57.79 in the event. She also was first to finish in the 200 backstroke this afternoon, touching the wall at 2:06.80.
Senior Sarah Kowalski (Muncie, Ind.-Yorktown) was the top sprinter in the 50 freestyle as her time of 23.95 was good for a first place finish. She also was the top finisher in the 100 freestyle with her first place time of 52.43.
On the boards for the Eagles, Lesley Vizurraga (Grand Rapids, Mich.-Forest Hills Central) took first place in both the one and three-meter dives, recording 278.93 and 281.03 points, respectively. She was followed by teammate Kelly Hendricks (Schaumburg, Ill.-Conant), who took second place in both events.
The Green and White will return to action when they head to Miami on Nov. 6. The MAC dual meet is scheduled to begin at noon.
