YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University women's soccer team has already clinched the No. 4 seed in this year's Mid-American Conference Tournament, but before beginning its run for the MAC Tourney crown, they must first do battle with reigning MAC Tournament champion Central Michigan University in the regular season finale. The Eagles and Chippewas will kick things off at the CMU Soccer Complex tomorrow, Oct. 28, at 3 p.m.

SCOUTING THE CHIPPEWAS: Central Michigan University goes into its final regular season contest with an overall record of 12-4-1, 9-1 in the MAC after dropping its lone league contest to undefeated Toledo. The Chippewas have endured one of the toughest non-conference schedules among MAC teams, having battled teams from the Big Ten Big East Conferences. Offensively, CMU is paced by Laura Twidle and Ashley Mejilla who each have five goals on the season. With two assists as well, Twidle leads the Chippewas with 12 points. Defensively, CMU has allowed just seven goals on the season, thanks in large part to reigning MAC Defensive Player of the Year, goalkeeper Shay Mannino. Mannino has allowed just three goals in over 910 minutes of action this season. She has 27 saves and leads the league in GAA and save percentage.

LAST TIME OUT: The Eagles reached nine straight unbeaten matches after defeating Ball State, 1-0, in double-overtime Friday, Oct. 22. It was the longest overall streak in program history and tied for the longest streak in league action since 2003. Senior goalkeeper Monique Budani made eight saves in the shutout to eclipse Erin Norton on the EMU single-season saves record list. She now has 139 saves for the season. Senior striker Paige Sheridan also extended her streak of scoring at least a point in five consecutive matches with an assist on Cara Cutaia's second career goal. The unbeaten streak was snapped against Toledo Sunday, Oct. 24, when a 14th minute goal by the Rockets stood until the very end to hand EMU its first conference loss of the season. The Eagles have secured the fourth seed in the conference tournament and will host a first round match Sunday, Oct. 31.

BUDANI CAPTURES ANOTHER RECORD: Senior goalkeeper Monique Budani broke the EMU single-season saves record which was previously held by Erin Norton ('00) who made 126 stops back in 1997. Budani accomplished the feat in just the first seven minutes of EMU's 1-0 double-overtime victory over Ball State Oct. 22. Her season total now equals a career-high 139 saves which is tops in the nation. She is averaging nearly eight saves per contest and ranks 21st in the nation with a save percentage of .869.
GOAL ORIENTED: Senior forward Paige Sheridan has been on an impressive streak of late, scoring goals in six of seven matches, including four straight entering EMU's contest against Ball State Friday, Oct. 22. She did, however, add an assist in the win over Ball State to extend her streak of scoring at least a point to five consecutive matches. She is tied for the league lead in goals with eight and has the most of any MAC player during league play this season with six. Her eight goals are also a career-high and equal half of her career total (16). She's also making it count when it matters most as she has a team-high three game-winning scores.

MAC ROAD SUCCESS: The Eagles had their road unbeaten streak snapped at 13 matches after falling, 1-0, to the lone undefeated team in the MAC, Toledo, Sunday, Oct. 24. The previous loss EMU suffered before falling to Toledo occured on Oct. 28, 2007, when they fell to Northern Illinois. The Eagles compiled a 7-0-6 record during the streak which lasted 1,092 days.

MAC WEST DOMINANCE: The 2010 season marks the first in which the Mid-American Conference has split into two divisions for women's soccer. After all 36 matches were played, the results were in dominant favor of the West Division as it displayed a 23-5-8 edge over their East Division foes. Eastern Michigan concluded its cross-divisional schedule, going 4-0-2 with ties to Miami and Ohio. According to league records, the top five teams reside in the West Division heading into each team's final regular season contest.

DOWN THE STRETCH THEY COME: Seven of the eight spots in the 2010 Mid-American Conference Tournament have been claimed with the one remain spot up for grabs being the eight and final seed between Ohio and Bowling Green. Ohio holds a three-point lead over BGSU in the MAC standings and would just need a win or a tie to clinch the final spot. If BGSU wins, they would need Ohio to lose in order to claim the No. 8 seed. Toledo has clinched the overall top seed with a 10-0 conference mark while Miami currently has the No. 2 seed with a 4-4-2 record in MAC play. Akron is still within reach of the No. 2 seed if they can leap-frog over Miami with a positive result in the regular season finale.
