Westerink, Mebuke beat a Western Michigan duo to move on to day two
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Nino Mebuke and Miriam Westerink who were able to advance in the opening round of the main draw for doubles on Day Two of the ITA Midwest Regional, Friday, Oct. 22, in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Mebuke and Westerink were able to beat a Western Michigan team, 8-6, to advance.
"I was pleased with the progress we have made in doubles," said EMU Head Coach Ryan Ray. "We have worked on it a lot in the passed few weeks and our positioning is getting better. Miriam and Nino got a solid win to start the tournament and will compete in the round of 16 in the morning. I'm excited to see Miriam and Nino continue to compete in doubles and singles tomorrow."
Senior Xu Chang, who advanced to the final round of qualifiers yesterday after a win and a bye, was unable to continue as she lost a tough contested match to Wisconsin's Nicky Stracar, 6-3, 6-4.
