MUNCIE, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) –– The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team fell short against Ball State University Saturday evening, Oct. 2, in Mid-American Conference action here at Worthen Arena. The Cardinals posted set victories of 25-19, 25-23, 25-22, as the Eagles were able to keep victory in sight each time out. The Green and White were led by freshman Paige Roback (Maumee, Ohio-Notre Dame Academy), who posted her seventh career double-double with 11 kills and 18 digs.
EMU drops to 16-4 overall and 3-1 in league play, while the Cardinals improve to 3-1 in the MAC and 13-3 on the season. Additionally, the loss snaps the Eagles five-match winning streak and drops EMU out of sole possession atop the MAC's West Division.
Behind Roback, sophomores Rachel Iaquaniello (Plymouth, Mich.-Dearborn Divine Child) and Kristen Baker (Mentor, Ohio-Mentor) both reach double figures in kills with 10. Junior Ashley Mason (Eastlake, Ohio- Lake Catholic) distributed 33 set assists to go along with seven defensive digs.
Ball State's Whitney Heeres tallied 11 kills and Kylee Baker also chipped in a double-double with 10 put-a-ways and 17 digs for the Cardinals.
Eastern Michigan team takes to the floor at the Convocation Center three-times in the upcoming week. The Eagles will host IPFW Tuesday, Oct. 5, in a non-conference affair before returning to Mid-American Conference play Friday, Oct. 8, versus instate rival Western Michigan University. EMU closes out the week Saturday, Oct. 9, against Northern Illinois University. First serve for all three matches is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Tuesday's match will be video streamed on Eagle All-Access. Veteran broadcaster Chad Bush will call the action beginning at 6:50 p.m.
