Peters Finishes Tied for Seventh at MAC Fall Preview

NASHPORT, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team finished the day 330 to finish in fifth place at the Mid-American Conference Preview Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 19, here at Longaberger Golf Course. The Green and White finished with a two-day mark of 650 (320-330) behind Western Michigan University, which won the tournament title at 624 (308-316).

Eight of the nine schools in the MAC that offer women's golf as a varsity sport competed on the course that will host the 2011 MAC Championships this spring, April 23-25, 2011. Behind WMU, Akron finished second, Toledo placed third, Ohio and Ball State tied for fourth, Northern Illinois finished eighth and Bowling Green rounded it out in ninth.

Akron's Hannah Ek won the event with a 149, while teammate Kristen Hill took third place overall with a 152. Western Michigan's Britney Hamilton finished in a close second place with a score of 151.

Leading the way for the Eagles was senior Darby Peters (Lake Orion, Mich.-Lake Orion) who finished the tournament tied for seventh place with a 12-over par 156 (76-80). The top 10 showing is the 14th of her career and the second of the 2010-11 campaign.

Classmate Robyn Scott (Auckland, New Zealand-Westlake Girls-Texas Tech Univ.) was just six strokes behind with a 162 (77-85). Sophomore Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Central) fired a 165 (81-84) for a tie for 29th place and sophomore Meredith Fairbairn (Orangeville, Ontario-Westside Secondary School) added an 169 (86-83) for 36th place. Rounding out the EMU rotation, redshirt freshman Alyssa Kwon (Richmond Hills, Ontario-Richmond Hills) posted a 173 (90-83) for 47th place.

Competing as individuals, freshmen Usanee Laopattananont (Bangplee, Thailand-Thai Christian School) and Corey Crossan (London, Ontario-Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School) finished with an 167 (84-83) and an 171 (86-85), respectively.

Head Coach Sandy Wagner's crew closes out the fall portion of the schedule at the Challenge at Onion Creek, Nov. 1-2.
