Women's Swimming Dives Into 2010 With FIU Invite Win

The Eagles totaled 128 points en route to a win at the seven-team invitational
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team made a big splash to start the 2010 campaign by winning the seven-team FIU Invitational at Bay Vista Aquatic Center in Ventura, Fla. Saturday, Jan. 2.
The Eagles won six of the eight events, all relays, totaling 128 points to edge Illinois State who placed second with 113 points. U.S. Air Force Academy came in third with 52 points while McMaster (30), host Florida International (18), Northern Iowa (6) and American (5) rounded out the leader board.
Eastern's 400-yard medley relay team kicked off the event with a win. Sarah Maraskine, Sheila Carson, Tracy Morgan and Sarah Kowalski nipped McMaster at the wall by less than a second, taking it with a time of 4:02.39.
Stephanie Cholyk, Sarah Kowalski, Samantha Partridge and Briana Emig took the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:41.49, finishing ahead of second place Illinois State who touched the wall in 3:45.11.
The Eagle women also won the 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke and 200-yard backstroke relays while finishing second in the 200-yard freestyle and third in the 200-yard butterfly relays.
EMU will compete next Saturday when it hosts Oakland University in a dual meet at Jones Natatorium beginning at 2 p.m.
