Sophomore earns the honor for the first time

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Eastern Michigan University sophomore men's golfer Nick Carbary (Kalamazoo, Mich.-Mattawan) was named Academic All-Mid-American Conference, the conference office announced Wednesday morning, June 3. Carbary was also named to the All-Tournament team at the MAC Championships earlier this year.

Carbary, who boasts a 3.70 GPA in accounting, averaged 75.3 strokes per round in 2008-09. He became just the fourth Eagle to earn All-Tournament honors at the MAC Championship since the award since 2006.

Carbary played in seven of the Eagles' 11 tournaments, picking up his first career top-five showing with a fourth place finish at the MAC Championship with a one-under 287. He ranked 697th according to the Golfweek/Sagarin system.

The Academic All-MAC honor is for student-athletes who have excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
