Eagles Make Statement With 14-4 Win Over Toledo

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Eastern Michigan University baseball team brought out its bats in game one of a three-game Mid-American Conference West Division series against the University of Toledo, as the Eagles pounded out 17 hits en route to a 14-4 win over the division leading Rockets at Scott Park Field.
The Eagles improve to 19-31 (10-12 MAC) with the win, while the Rockets drop to 20-24 (13-9 MAC) with the loss.
Juniors Jim Gulliver (Allen Park, Mich.-Allen Park) and Andrew Marshall (Mason, Mich.-Mason) each belted a pair of home runs for the Eagles in the win, helping redshirt sophomore pitcher Corey Chaffins (New London, Ohio-New London) improve his record to 4-3 this season.
Gulliver finished 4-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBI, while
Chaffins tallied eight strikeouts over six innings, yielding four runs on four hits to earn the win.
The Eagles and Rockets are back in action tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Scott Park Field.
