AKRON, Ohio-The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team wrapped up action on day two of the three day Mid-American Conference outdoor championship Friday, May 16. The Eagles sit in 12th with three points following a day full of preliminary events.Akron has 66 points, followed by Ohio (45), Kent State (42.5), Buffalo (39), Bowling Green (31), Miami (22), Toledo (20), Ball State (15.5), Western Michigan (13), Central Michigan (12), Northern Illinois (3) and Eastern Michigan (3).
Those competing in finals on Friday included Melissa Green (Brecksville, Ohio-Brecksville Broadview Heights) in the steeplechase, Rosie White (New Albany, Ohio-New Albany) in the long jump and Angela Scarber (Waterford, Mich.-Waterford) in the shot put. Green's time of 11:40.43 in the steeple cas good for 15th. In the long jump, White's jumped 17-05.50, finishing 17th, while Scarber threw 41-11.50 to place 16th.
ReJeana Marigna (Beverly, N.J.-Burlington County Inst. Tech.) ran 12.02 seconds in the 100-meter dash to qualify for tomorrow's final. In the 200-meter dash, she ran 24.73 seconds to earn a spot in the final. In the 400-meter dash Shantavia Williams (Homestead, Fla-South Dade) ran 55.37 seconds, earning an automatic spot in the final along with teammate Shade St. Louis (Kansas City, Mo.-Kansas City CC), who ran a time of 56.56 seconds. Dejaa Shearer (Canton, Ohio- Glen Oak) secured the final spot in the 400-meter hurdles, running 1:02.27.
In the 800 meters, the Eagles will have Beverly Elcock (Ft. Wayne, Ind.-Northrop) representing the, running 2:13.04 to earn a spot in the finals based on time. She also earned the 12th and final spot in the 1,500 meters, running 2:39.19.
