Stephany Fleet Finishes Among Nation's Elite According to GolfStat.com

Dewitt, Mich. native ranked second in the country in total short game
YPSILANTI, Mich. – Eastern Michigan University senior Stephany Fleet (Dewitt, Mich.-Dewitt) made a name for herself not only in the Mid-American Conference but nationwide. The Dewittt, Mich. native finished the season ranked second in the nation in total short game, according to GolfStat.com. Additionally, the Eagles tied for eighth as a team in total short game.
Fleet boasted an average of .674, just behind Erica Moston of San Jose State University at .731. As a team the Eagles notched an average of .485 to finish tied with the University of Nevada-Reno and the University of Missouri.
The total short game rankings compare the statistics of more than 600 student-athletes and factors in sand saves and non-sand up-and-downs.
Fleet was ranked the 129th best golfer in the nation according to the Golfweek/Sagarin system with a 666-43-12 overall record in 2008-09. As a team, EMU ranked 81sth nationally by the Golfweek/Sagarin and 86th by GolfStat.
Following a school's best finish with a runner-up showing at the 2009 Mid-American Conference Women's Golf Championship, EMU picked a trio of postseason awards to cap a stellar 2008-09 campaign. Fleet was named to the all-tournament team and first team All-MAC squad. Sophomore Darby Peters (Lake Orion, Mich.-Lake Orion) also garnered first team All-MAC accolades for her efforts, while senior Courtney Aili (Chelsea, Mich.-Chelsea) was selected to the all-tournament team and second team All-MAC.
EMU's second-place finish equaled the mark set by the 2003, 2007 and the 2008 squads. In 2003, the Green and White recorded a 925 at Walden Ponds Golf Course in Hamilton, Ohio. The 2007 team posted a 1,252 at Longaberger Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio, while the 2008 Eagles finished as the runner-up with 1,228 at The Brickyard Crossing Golf Course in Indianapolis, Ind.
Fleet played in all 10 tournaments this year, posting an average of 75.3 strokes in 27 rounds. The mark led the team and ranked third in the conference. She finished in the top five in nine events, including a runner-up showing at the UALR Women's Golf Classic and at the EKU Spring Invitational. Fleet finished with the second lowest single-season average in school-history.
Additionally, Fleet recorded the best win-loss percentage during a single-year in the program's history at 94.0 percent (723-46). She was selected the MAC's Golfer of the Week three times this season and was selected for the accolade eight times in her career. One of the best golfers in school history, she recorded 18 top five showings and 24 top 10 finishes for an all-time record of 2487-562. She also finished tied with Catherine Fortin for the lowest career scoring average in program history at 76.79.
