YPSILANTI, Mich. – After winning three out of four games last week, the Eastern Michigan University baseball team hits the road for a pair of non-conference road games, April 28-29, against the Michigan State University Spartans in East Lansing. Both games are scheduled for 3:05 p.m.
A LOOK AT MSU: The Spartans are coming off a weekend sweep of the Iowa Hawkeyes, putting them at 8-7 in the Big Ten this season. After two games against EMU, the Spartans remain in East Lansing for a weekend series with Penn State University.
LOOKING AHEAD: After facing MSU, the Eagles begin the month of May with a Mid-American Conference West Division series at home against the Ball State University Cardinals. EMU has two out of conference games remaining, a May 5 doubleheader at Oakland and a meeting with the Ohio State University, May 12, in Columbus.
MOVIN' ON UP: After winning two out of three against NIU, the Eagles improved to 7-11 in the Mid-American Conference, putting them in fourth place in the MAC West, ahead of Western Michigan and NIU. The Eagles still remain one spot out of qualifying for the MAC Tournament with each school having six games remaining in league play. The top eight in the league, regardless of division, qualify for the MAC Tournament.
STOP, THIEF!: EMU senior outfielder Kyle Rhoad has been a terror on the base paths for opposing teams this season. Rhoad has tallied 24 stolen bases in 25 attempts this season, the third most in the Mid-American Conference. Last game against NIU, Rhoad passed Glen Gulliver, Ted Dasen, and Terry Collins for seventh all-time in EMU baseball history with his 58th career stolen base.
GRAVE DIGGER: In his last six games, junior Todd Graves is batting .417 (10-for-24) with six home runs, nine runs scored and 12 RBI.
