KALAMAZOO, Mich
. – The Eastern Michigan University softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to Western Michigan University, falling 10-5 in the first contest before dropping the second game by a score of 3-2. Down 3-0 in the second contest, the Eagles put up two runs in the seventh but could not complete the rally.

With the two losses, the Eagles drop to 16-28 (4-12 MAC) on the season while Western evens its record to 17-17 (11-5 MAC). Sophomore pitcher Jaclyn Caro (Chino, Calif.-St. Lucy's Priory) was charged with the loss in both games, moving her overall record to 11-12. EMU totaled 11 hits on the afternoon, led by Stacie Skodinski (South Bend, Ind.-Washington) with three total base knocks.

In the first contest, the Eagles were up 1-0 entering the bottom of the second frame but fell victim to a five-run Bronco inning. Down 8-2 in the fifth, the Green and White put another two runs on the board to get within four, 8-4. WMU answered with two more runs of it own in the bottom half to increase the lead to 10-4, putting the game out of reach.

Seven Eagles tallied hits in the first contest, led by McKenna Russ's (North Canton, Ohio-Hoover) third home run of the season. Caro pitched 1.1 innings, giving up five runs on five hits while fanning two batters. Junior Michelle Hletko (Westmont, Ill.-Westmont) pitched 4.2 innings of relief, surrendering five runs on six hits.

The second contest saw both teams go scoreless until Western put up three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Down 3-0 entering the final frame, the Eagles began to rally. Sarah Gerber (North Canton, Ohio-Hoover) drew a walk to start the inning, advancing to second on a Heather Han (Lafayette, Ind.-McCutcheon) sacrifice bunt.

Gerber crossed the plate for the Eagles' first run of the contest when Jenny Scherer (Stow, Ohio-Stow-Munroe) singled up the middle. Skodinski then doubled to score Scherer, but the next two Eagle batters could not reach base, ending the game.

Caro once again was tagged with the loss, pitching 6.0 innings while giving up three runs on five hits.

The Eagles continue their road trip tomorrow, heading to DeKalb, Ill. for a series with the Northern Illinois Huskies. The teams are set to square off in two single games, with the first coming tomorrow at noon (CST). Game time was originally slated for 2 p.m., but the threat of afternoon rain has forced the change.
