Chrusciel and Gersham Pace Eagles on Day One of EMU Twilight

Eagles wrap up day one of action at the EMU Twilight

YPSILANTI, Mich.
-Seniors Luke Chrusciel (Grandview, Mich.-Grandview) and Gerald Gersham (Southfield, Mich.-Southfield) each picked up wins Friday evening, April 17, on day one of the EMU Twilight at Olds/Marshall Track.

Chrusciel, who had stayed on the heals of his competitor the entire race, sprinted past him with just under two laps to go to pick up the win in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:47.50. Gersham tossed 56-00.00 in the finals of the shot put for the win.

In the 1,500 the Eagles had a slew of runners competing, with Neal Naughton (Walled Lake, Mich.-Western), Josh Karanja (Ottawa, Canada-Nepean) and Curtis Vollmar (Grand Blanc, Mich.-Grand Blanc) finished second, third and fifth respectively.

Following Chrusciel in the 5,000 was another pack of EMU runners. Kyle Mena (Portage, Mich.-Portage) was third, Matt Hammersmtih (Wolcotteville, Mich.-Prarie Heights) fifth and R.P. White (Hillsdale, Mich.-Hillsdale) was ninth.

In the 400-meter hurdles, the Eagles had several competitors finish with top times. Kevin Lanier (Whitelake, Mich.-Lakeland) clocked in with a time of 53.00 seconds, while Tymell Dodd (Lansing, Mich.-Sexton) and Daniel Collins (Cleveland, Ohio-Rhodes) recorded times of 54.90 and 55.10 seconds, respectively.

Jarid Pearson (Walled Lake, Mich.-Western) and Andrew Meyer (Minster, Ohio-Minster) placed second and fourth in the shot put behind Gersham. Pearson threw 51-04.25 while Meyer tossed 49-10.00.

The second and final day of the meet will begin at 8 a.m. with the finals of the hammer, which was suspeneded Friday night due to darkness.
