Eagles Head to Kalamazoo for Three-Game Set

EMU will take on WMU, April 17-19, in Kalamazoo, Mich.
YPSILANTI, Mich. – Coming off a split against the University of Michigan, April 15, the Eastern Michigan University baseball team hits the road for a Mid-American Conference three-game set in Kalamazoo against the Broncos of Western Michigan University, April 17-19. Game one is scheduled for 3 p.m., Friday, while games two and three are slated for 1 p.m., Saturday and Sunday.
The Broncos lead the all-time series over EMU, 77-67. In their last meeting, game one of the MAC Tournament last season, the Eagles registered an 8-5 victory over the Broncos.
LOOKING BACK: The Eagles are coming off a split in Ann Arbor against Michigan, as the team dropped game one, 4-3, but rebounded for an 11-5 victory in game two. Junior Andrew Marshall cracked two home runs in game two, while junior Jim Gulliver and senior Kyle Rhoad each went yard in the game two win.
AWARD WINNING EAGLES: After a record breaking performance against BGSU, April 8, redshirt freshman Wally Gerbus garnered Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's “Louisville Slugger” National Player of the Week award, April 13. Gerbus belted four homers against the Falcons, finishing 4-for-5 with eight RBI and five runs scored. Gerbus also earned MAC West Player of the Week honors, April 13, while redshirt sophomore pitcher Corey Chaffins picked up MAC West Pitcher of the Week honors for his performance against Ohio, April 10.
STOP, THIEF!: Senior Kyle Rhoad has been among the MAC's top base stealers this season, tallying 20 stolen bases in 21 attempts this season. In his career, Rhoad has 54 stolen bases, good for 11th all time in EMU baseball history. He need two more to tie Whitford Boyd for 10th all time and three more to tie Glen Gulliver, Ted Dasen and Terry Collins for seventh all time.
GOING STREAKING: Sophomore Matt Skirving is currently riding a 10-game hitting streak, the second longest streak by an EMU player this season. Sophomore Zack Leonard had an 11-game hitting streak earlier this season.
MULTITASKING: Four Eagles have had 10 or more multi-hit games this season. Sophomore Zack Leonard has 15, senior Kyle Rhoad has 14, senior Aaron Powell has 13, and junior Jim Gulliver has 10 this season.
