EMU goes hitless in five-inning loss

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Eastern Michigan University softball team fell 9-0 in five innings to the No. 8 University of Michigan, Wednesday, April 15 at the Wilpon Softball Complex. The Wolverines were able to keep the Eagles hitless on the evening en route to the five-inning win.
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Eastern Michigan University softball team fell 9-0 in five innings to the No. 8 University of Michigan, Wednesday, April 15 at the Wilpon Softball Complex. The Wolverines were able to keep the Eagles hitless on the evening en route to the five-inning win.
With the loss, the Eagles fall to 15-23 on the season while the Wolverines improve to 30-9 on the season. Freshman Allison Scherer (Stow, Ohio-Stow-Munroe) was charged with the loss, going 2.2 innings while giving up five runs on five hits. The Eagles did not tally a hit in the contest, as Kaylee Tolliver (Amanda, Ohio-Amanda Clearcreek) was the only EMU base runner on the evening, reaching on a passed ball.
After a scoreless first inning of play, the Wolverines put up five runs in the second inning on the strength of a three-run home run by Dorian Shaw and a Samantha Findlay two-run single up the middle.
Michigan would continue to increase its lead, plating another four runs in the third frame to go up 9-0.
The Eagles return to Mid-American Conference action this weekend, first welcoming Kent State University to Varsity Field, Friday, April 17. The teams are set for a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday's contest against The University at Buffalo marks EMU's “Knock Cancer Out of the Park”, with a home run derby to follow the 2 p.m. contest.
