, Mich.After dropping game one of its doubleheader, 4-3, to the Wolverines of the University of Michigan, the Eastern Michigan University baseball team cracked four home runs in game two en route to an 11-5 victory Wednesday night, April 15. The Eagles finish the season 2-2 against the Wolverines.

 

Junior Andrew Marshall (Mason, Mich.-Mason) hit a pair of homers in game two to lead EMU to victory. Marshall went 3-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored for the Eagles, while junior Jim Gulliver (Allen Park, Mich.-Allen Park) went 1-for-4 with four RBI in game two.

 

Sophomore Zack Leonard (Canton, Ohio-McKinley) went 4-for-4 with one run and one RBI for the Eagles in game two, while senior Aaron Powell (Clarkston, Mich.-Clarkston) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored in the late game.

 
After the Wolverines put up two runs in the bottom of the first in game one, redshirt freshman Wally Gerbus (Fairfield, Ohio-Stephen T. Baden) cut U-M's lead in half in the top of the fourth, as his solo homer over the left field wall made it a 2-1 game. 

 

Still behind by one in the top of the fifth, sophomore Matt Skirving (Midland, Mich.-H.H. Dow) belted his fifth homer of the season, as his two-run shot over the right field wall plated Gulliver to give the Eagles a 3-2 lead.

 

But the Wolverines reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the sixth, as a two-run shot over the right field wall by Mike Dufek gave Michigan a 4-3 lead, one they would not relinquish.

 

In the night cap, senior Kyle Rhoad (Fostoria, Ohio-Elmwood) led off the game with a solo homer, giving EMU a 1-0 lead. Marshall cracked a two-run bomb later in the inning to extend the lead, 3-0. A wild pitch plated one more in the first to make it a 4-0 game.

 

Ryan LaMarree cut into the Eagles' lead in the bottom half of the inning, as his solo homer to center field made it a 4-1 game. The Wolverines tacked on three more an inning later to make it a 4-4 game.

 

Marshall helped the Eagles reclaim the lead in the top of the third, as his solo homer to right field put EMU ahead, 5-4.

 

Gulliver put the Eagles up by four in the top of the fourth, as his towering three-run homer over the right field wall made it an 8-4 game. Powell belted an RBI single up the middle to extend EMU's lead, 9-4. The Eagles tacked on one more in the inning to make it a 10-4 game.

 

Senior Sean Hoffman (Midland, Mich.-Midland) picked up the win for the Eagles in game two, putting him at 2-4 this season.

 

The Eagles head back on the road for a trio of Mid-American Conference West Division games this weekend, as the team travels to Kalamazoo to take on the Broncos of Western Michigan University, April 17-19. Game one on Friday is scheduled for 3 p.m.
