Baseball Falls, 8-3, to Ohio

YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Eastern Michigan University baseball team dropped game three Sunday afternoon, April 12, at Oestrike Stadium, as the Ohio University Bobcats handed the Eagles a 8-3 loss in a Mid-American Conference cross divisional match-up.

EMU drops to 8-25 (3-9 MAC) with the loss, while Ohio improves to 16-14 (9-3 MAC) with the win.

Junior Jim Gulliver (Allen Park, Mich.-Allen Park) went 3-for-4 with one run scored and one stolen base in the loss.

Junior Andrew Marshall (Mason, Mich.-Mason) went 2-for-5 with two RBI in the loss, while sophomore Matt Skirving (Midland, Mich.-H.H. Dow) went 2-for-4 with one RBI.

Marshall put the Eagles on the board early in the game, as his double down the left field line plated junior Gulliver to give EMU a 1-0 lead after an inning.

The Bobcats tied it in the top of the fourth, as a single through the right side by Jerod Yakubic plated Hayden Johnston to make it a 1-1 game. OU tacked on one more in the fourth to go ahead, 2-1.

Marshall brought EMU within one in the bottom of the fifth, as his single through the left side plated senior Kyle Rhoad (Fostoria, Ohio-Elmwood) to make it a 3-2 game.

Skirving made it a tie game in the bottom of the seventh, as his RBI single through the right side plated Rhoad to make it a 3-3 game.

The Bobcats reclaimed the lead in the top of the eighth, as a two-out error paved the way for a pair of runs, making it a 5-3 game. OU tacked on one more in the inning to go ahead, 6-3.

The Eagles are back in action Tuesday, April 14, when they host the Oakland University Golden Grizzlies at 6:05 p.m. at Oestrike Stadium. EMU holds a 39-10 all time mark against Oakland, but fell to OU, 10-5, earlier this season in Dayton, Ohio at the UD/WSU Tournament.
