Eagles record three consecutive outs with bases loaded in the seventh to record the win

Box Score

YPSILANTI
, Mich. – With the bases loaded and no one out in the top of the seventh inning, the Eastern Michigan University softball team's defense came up big, recording three consecutive outs for a 3-2 win over Central Michigan University at Varsity Field. The Eagles scored three runs in the first frame and never looked back to pick up the victory.

With the win, the Eagles improve to 14-22 (2-7 MAC) on the year while Central falls to 7-20 (1-7 MAC). Sophomore pitcher Jaclyn Caro (Chino, Calif.-St. Lucy's Priory) improved her record to 9-8 in the circle, pitching 7.0 innings while giving up two runs on three hits.

EMU only had one hit in the contest, but it was a big one as Heather Han (Lafayette, Ind.-McCutcheon) knocked a three-run home run to centerfield in the first frame to put the Eagles up 3-1. The Chippewas put another run on the board in the second inning to get within 3-2.

Neither team would get in a groove offensively the rest of the way until the top of the seventh. Central, down only 3-2, loaded the bases with no outs in the final frame before the Eagle defense dug in. Jessica Richards (Canton, Ohio-Jackson) caught a line drive in centerfield, holding the runner at the third for the first out. Second baseman Lauren Delapaz (Plymouth, Mich.-Canton) then scooped up the next hit and fired home, recording the second out of the inning for the Green and White. With CMU on its final out of the game, Delapaz once again made the play, firing to first base to end the game.

The Eagles and Chips conclude their series tomorrow, April 12 at Varsity Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
