Tennis looks to rebound, hosting Buffalo and Akron

» 2009 SEASON KICKS OFF: The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team is in its 32nd season. The first season of women's varsity intercollegiate tennis at EMU was 1976-77 under the direction of Lucy Parker. The Eagles went 8-7 that season and finished fifth at the Michigan AIAW Championship.
» WHAT'S ON TAP: Following a three-week off period, the Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team will open up the 2009 Mid-American Conference portion of its schedule Friday and Saturday, March 20-21. The Eagles will host Buffalo on Friday at 1 p.m. at the Chippewa Racquet Club and return for a 1 p.m. serve Saturday against the Zips. Eastern holds an all-time record of 28-3 against this weekend's opponents.
» SCOUTING THE BULLS: The defending Mid-American Conference Champions enter this weekend's contest with a 7-3 mark on the year and are on a six-match win streak. Denise Harijanto and Diana Popescu enter as the top two seeds for the bulls with a combined 1-2 singles record of 16-4.
» THE SERIES: The Eagles hold the 8-2 edge all-time against the Bulls. EMU won the first seven contests, beginning in the 1998-99 season. The Bull picke dup wins in 2005-06 and 2006-07 before the Eagles edged the Bulls last season, 4-3.
» SCOUTING THE ZIPS: The Zips enter Saturday's match with an overall record of 11-3 and are set to play Toledo Friday afternoon. The enter Friday's contest against Toledo on a five-match win streak and have won 10 of their last 11.
» THE SERIES: The Eagles hold a commanding 20-1 lead in the all-time series against the Zips, with EMU's lone loss coming during the 1995-96 season. In those 20 wins, the Eagles have swept Akron on 13 occasions and have never given up more than three games in each of those 20 wins.
» TOUR-DE-FLORIDA: The Eagles spent the week of Feb. 23 in the Sunshine State visiting three Florida schools before returning home for a Feb. 28 date with Marshall University. The Eagles went 1-3 on the week, picking up a 5-2 win against Florida Gulf Coast.
