McKenna Russ Named MAC West Division Softball Player of the Week

Freshman outfielder hit .600 in five games for EMU

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Freshman outfielder McKenna Russ (North Canton, Ohio-Hoover) was selected the Mid-American Conference West Division softball Player of the Week, the conference office announced March 17. This is the first time in her career she has won the weekly award.

Russ hit .600 (9-for-15) with five RBI in three games at the Courtyard by Marriott Cardinal Tournament at the University of Louisville, helping the Eagles to a 2-3 mark through five games. Russ was also a perfect 3-for-3 in stolen base attempts while racking up multiple hits in four of the five games. In an 8-4 win over the University of Illinois-Chicago, Russ went 3-for-4 with a career-best four RBI.

The Eagles will play their last regular season tournament this weekend (March 20-22), traveling to Radford, Va., to participate in the Highlander Classic at Radford University. First up for EMU is Harvard University, March 20 at 2 p.m. The Eagles will then take on Toledo, March 21 at noon before ending round robin play against Radford at 4 p.m. Sunday's action will be based on the team's finishes in round robin play.
