Eagles Drop Two Games Against WSU

, Ohio The Eastern Michigan University baseball team lost a pair of heartbreakers to the Wright State University Raiders Saturday afternoon, March 14, as the Eagles fell, 3-1, in game one and 7-6 in game two.

 

The pair of losses puts EMU at 3-12 this season, while WSU improves to 6-10 with the wins.

 

The Eagles lost a tough one in game one, as a solid outing from sophomore Jordan Goldschmidt (Ft. Loramie, Ohio-Ft. Loramie) fell to the wayside after the Raiders got a walk-off two-run home run with one out in the bottom of the ninth from Quentin Cate to upend the Eagles, 3-1.

 

Seniors Aaron Powell (Clarkston, Mich.-Clarkston) and Kyle Rhoad (Fostoria, Ohio-Elmwood) each tallied two hits for the Eagles in game one, as Powell went 2-for-2 with one run scored, while Rhoad finished 2-for-3 in the loss.

 

The Eagles were the victim of a late rally again in game two, as the Raiders broke a tie in the bottom of the ninth with an RBI double down the left field line by Aaron Fields sealed a 7-6 win for WSU.

 

Junior Andrew Marshall (Mason, Mich.-Mason) had a solid performance at the plate in game two, going 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Rhoad went 1-for-4 with two runs and two stolen bases in game two.

 

Sophomore Tim Combs (Dayton, Ohio-Wayne) took the loss for EMU in game one, while senior Kevin Wammes (Fremont, Ohio-St. Joseph) took the loss in game two.

 

The Eagles wrap up the UD/WSU Tournament tomorrow morning when they take on the Oakland University Golden Grizzlies at 10 a.m. at Time Warner Cable Stadium.
