Eagles to face Wichita State and Oklahoma State

» 2009 SEASON KICKS OFF: The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team is in its 32nd season. The first season of women's varsity intercollegiate tennis at EMU was 1976-77 under the direction of Lucy Parker. The Eagles went 8-7 that season and finished fifth at the Michigan AIAW Championship.
» WHAT'S ON TAP: The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team will take on a pair of first-time opponents this weekend, Feb. 6-7. First up will be Wichita State University Friday, Feb. 6, at 1 p.m. at the Genesis Health Club's Rock Road location. Saturday, Feb. 7, the Eagles will travel to Stillwater, Okla., for a noon matchup with the Oklahoma State Cowgirls.
» SCOUTING THE SHOCKERS: WSU enters the contest riding a two-match win streak, with shutouts of Central Oklahoma and Newman. The Shockers are under the direction of fifth-year head coach Chad Yound. Wichita State is led by the No. 30 ranked doubles team of Anna Egorova and Lutfiana Budiharto.
» THE SERIES: As previosly mentioned, this will be the first meeting between the Eagles and Shockers.
» SCOUTING THE COWGIRLS: Oklahoma State enters Saturday's contest on a two-match losing skid, with loses coming at the hands of Florida and South Alabama in the ITA National Indoor Championship. The Cowgirls are under the guidance of 19th-year head coach Julius Lubicz-Majewski. Last season, OSU compiled an overall record of 12-10 and a Big 12 mark of 6-6, losing to Texas A&M in the conference torunament.
» THE SERIES: The Eagles and Cowgirls will be meeting for the first time Saturday, Feb. 7.
» NATIONAL OPPONENTS: The Eagles enter this weekend's matches hoping to improve their record against nationally ranked opponents. The Eagles are 0-2 on the season against ranked competition, losing to Michigan State and Wisconsin.
» SAVING THE DAY: Freshman Karina Ahuja's win at the No. 2 singles spot against Detroit, Jan. 31. defeating Zeljka Minic in two tough sets, 7-6, 7-5, gave the Eagles the necessary match win to best Detroit, after losing the doubles point to the Titans.
» RALLY SAVES THE DAY: After falling behind 1-0 to the Detroit Titans, Jan. 31, the Eagles won the top four singles flights to take the one-point win over the UDM. Collecting victories were Miriam Westerink, Karina Ahuja, Xu Chang and Joanna Woo.
