David Brent Named MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week

Earns award after earning his second straight NCAA qualifying time
CLEVELAND, Ohio—Eastern Michigan University men's track and field student-athlete David Brent (Monroe, Mich.-St. Mary's Catholic) was named the Mid-American Conference Male Scholar Athlete of the Week on February 19, 2009.
Brent, who carries a 3.04 GPA in mathematics, hit an NCAA qualifying mark for the second straight week, this time in the 800-meter run at the Grand Valley Big Meet. His time of 1:49.99 was good for fifth in the premier section of the 800, and ranks eighth all-time in school history and first in the MAC this season and is ranked 23rd in the nation. Not only does he hold the top time in the MAC in the 800 this season, but also in the mile, a time of 4:01.49, which is the seventh-best effort in EMU history, an NCAA qualifying mark, and the 16th ranked time in the nation.
The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
