ALL-TIME IN SEASON LID LIFTERS: Friday's contest versus Illinois-Chicago marks the start of Eastern Michigan University's 34th year of women's basketball which began in 1976-77. The Eagles' first-ever collegiate contest was a 63-53 setback to the University of Michigan, Jan. 11, 1977.
All-time the Eagles are 20-13 in season lid lifters, including winning seven of their last eight openers dating back to a 82-67 victory over Cornell University, Nov. 16, 2001 at the Convocation Center.

EMU VERSUS ILLINOIS-CHICAGO: The Eagles and Flames are squaring off for the ninth time with Eastern Michigan holding a 6-2 advantage in the all-time series. The meeting will be the first since 1999, when Eastern posted a 63-54 victory at the Convocation Center, Dec. 30. EMU won the first four meetings to open the series before UIC notched back-to-back wins in 191 and 1992. For the complete series results, turn to page 61 of the 2009-10 EMU women's basketball media guide.

FLAMES NEWEST MEMBER OF THE MAC WEST?: The way UIC head coach Lisa Ryckbosch setup her schedule he might be able to ask Mid-American Conference Commissioner Jon Steinbrecher for temporary membership in the MAC's West Division. The Flames also play Western Michigan (Dec. 13) and Northern Illinois University (Dec. 29).
