Eagles Split Halloween Clash with Toledo, UW-Milwaukee

EMU women's swimming and diving fell to Toledo, but defeated UW-Milwaukee Saturday.

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan women's swimming and diving team followed up a win over Bowling Green with a Halloween split between Toledo and UW-Milwaukee at the Jones Natatorium Saturday afternoon, Oct. 31.
The Eagles fell to Toledo 82.5-41.5, but defeated UW-Milwaukee 41.5-7 to move their record to 2-1 overall, 1-1 in the Mid-American Conference. Briana Emig, Sarah Maraskine and Lesley Vizurraga shined for the Green and White in the team's second meet of the season.
Emig started the meet off with a pair of second place finishes in the 1,650 and 200 freestyles. She nearly beat out Carly Harter of Toledo in the 200, but came up 23-hundreths of a second shy with a time of 1:53.23. Later on, the freshman was finally able to get a win in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:56.52.
Meanwhile, the sophomore, Maraskine, was busy having herself a great day as well. She placed second in the 200 freestyle before swimming the lead leg and helping the 400 medley relay team to a second place finish also. The highlight of her day was when she edged out Ashley Cusack of Toledo for the win in the 100 backstroke, touching the wall with a time of 58.12.
Vizurraga did her part on the board, finishing first in the one meter dive before following it up with a second place finish in the three meter. Freshman Danielle Hulvey placed third in the one meter as well.
Another notable performance saw Sarah Kowalski finish first in the 100 freestyle. The Eagles will travel to Buffalo and Akron for a pair of MAC meets next weekend, Nov. 6-7.
