Men's Basketball Picked Third in the MAC West

Brandon Bowdry and Carlos Medlock selected for preseason squad
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team was picked to finish third in the West Division in the 2009-10 Mid-American Conference preseason poll by the voting members of the MAC News Media Association. The announcement was made in Cleveland today, Oct. 28.
EMU Head Coach Charles E. Ramsey's team received 94 total points and had three votes to win the West Division title. Central Michigan was the choice to win the West Division crown with 113 votes with Northern Illinois second with 102, EMU third, Ball State fourth with 87, Western Michigan fifth with 79 and Toledo sixth with 29. CMU received 10 votes to win the West while NIU had four, EMU and BSU three each and WMU four.
Akron was the pick to win the East Division regular-season championships with 190 points followed by Kent State with 108, Buffalo 97, Miami 78, Bowling Green 54 and Ohio 32. Akron received 19 first-place votes while Kent State had three and Buffalo and BGSU one each.
The voters also predicted that Akron would win the MAC Tournament title with 19 votes with Buffalo receiving two while NIU, Kent State and BGSU all received one vote to win the tourney.
In addition to the team selections the MAC NewsMedia Association also made its predictions for the All-West and All-East Division teams.
EMU senior Carlos Medlock (Detroit, Mich.-Murray Wright) and redshirt junior Brandon Bowdry (St. Louis, Mo.-Taylor Truman (Mich.) were both part of the five-man preseason West Division team. Joining the two Eagles on that squad were David Kool (WMU), Darion "Jake" Anderson (NIU) and Jarrod Jones (BSU).
The East Division selections were Kenny Hayes (Miami), Rodney Pierce (Buffalo), Chris Singletary (Kent State) and Brett McKnight and Anthony "Humpty" Hitchens (Akron).
The 6-foot Medlock was also named to the 2008-09 preseason All-West team, but missed the entire season with a broken foot. He enters his senior season in 2009-10 ranked 26th in EMU career scoring (1,032) and eighth in three-point shots made (138). Medlock has played in 77 games for the Eagles, 76 as the starting point guard.
The 6-foot-6 Bowdry was a second-team All-MAC performer last year after averaging 14.8 points, seventh in the league, and 7.2 rebounds, good for the sixth spot in the MAC.
The 2009-10 Eagles open the exhibition season Saturday, Nov. 7, at 4:30 p.m. in the Convocation Center against Concordia. Eastern tips off the regular season Saturday, Nov. 14, in a 7 p.m. game at Oakland University.
