EMU softball recorded the 16th-best GPA among Division I schools with a 3.384 GPA in 2009.

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University softball team ranked 16th among all Division I schools in team GPA, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced in its recent 2009 All-Academic Teams.

This marks the sixth year in a row the Eagles have ranked among the top-20 schools in the nation, which includes a first place finish back in 2004 when they recorded a 3.552 GPA. They followed that up with a third place in 2007. EMU compiled a 3.384 GPA in 2009, good for 16th place.

Robert Morris had the highest GPA among Division I schools with a 3.61 GPA followed by Drexel (3.527), Indiana State (3.523), Tennessee Tech (3.509) and Florida (3.49) to round out the top-5.

The Eagles put two on the Academic All-MAC squad last year in Heather Han, who graduated in 2009, and senior Jenny Sherer. EMU has had four Academic All-Americans in its history with Nikki Denman being the most recent back in 2003.
