DOUBLEHEADER ON TAP: The EMU-WMU game Saturday, Jan. 24, will be part of a doubleheader in the Convocation Center. The EMU women's basketball team will begin the action at 2 p.m. when it hosts Bowling Green State University. The men's game between the Eagles and Broncos is slated to begin at 4 p.m. or 30 minutes after the conclusion of the women's contest.

FOR THE 112th TIME: The 2008-09 season is the 112th of intercollegiate basketball for the Eastern Michigan University Eagles. Eastern played its first season in 1897-98 and split games with Detroit, losing a 2-0 decision before coming back for a 4-0 victory. The 2008-09 season will also be the 35th for the Eagles in the Mid-American Conference. The first year of MAC play for EMU was 1974-75 when the then-Hurons went 12-14 overall and 4-9 in the league. EMU has won three Mid-American Conference titles: 1987-88, 1990-91, and 1995-96, and the Green and White captured MAC Tournament crowns in all three of those years in addition to winning the tournament title in 1997-98.

SOLOMON FARRIS SUSPENDED:
EMU sophomore guard Solomon Farris (Detroit, Mich.-Osborn) has been suspended for the remainder of the season for violation of teams rules, EMU Head Coach Charles E. Ramsey has announced. Farris played in 17 games this season and is averaging 6.8 points and 3.5 rebounds. The suspension is effective immediately. "We hope that Solomon takes this time to get his life back in order," Ramsey said. Despite playing in just 50 games in his career, redshirt sophomore Brandon Bowdry (St. Louis, Mo.-Taylor (Mich.) Truman), is climbing the EMU career points and rebound ladder at a brisk pace. Bowdry, who has started in 45 of the 50 games in which he has played, is currently 81st on the EMU career scoring list with 555 points and his 299 career rebounds is 62nd. A total of 61 players in EMU history have recorded 300+ rebounds in their careers. Junior center Justin Dobbins (Cleveland, Ohio-Glenville) is the 72nd player in EMU history to reach the 600-point plateau with 633 heading into the WMU game, Jan. 24, 2009. Dobbins has played in 74 games, starting 59 times, and his 633 points is good for 65th in EMU history and his 321 rebounds is ranked 57th. EMU and WMU will be meeting for the 94th time with Western holding a 49-44 advantage in the series. The Broncos had won nine straight games heading into the 2007-08 season and the Eagles turned in an 81-71 victory at the Convocation Center, Jan. 12, to snap that string. Western then came back to win in Kalamazoo, 70-52, Feb. 20. The two teams met in the second round of the 2008 Mid-American Conference Tournament in Cleveland, March 13, and Western recorded a 70-61 victory. EMU enters Saturday's, Jan. 24, home game against Western Michigan with a 3-15 overall record and a 1-3 MAC mark. The Eagles dropped a 72-52 decision at Northern Illinois University Tuesday, Jan. 20. Redshirt sophomore Brandon Bowdry (St. Louis, Mo.-Taylor (Mich.) Truman) is EMU's top scorer and rebounder at 16.1 points a game and 7.0 boards a contest. WMU is currently 6-11 overall and 3-1 in Mid-American Conference play after losing a 50-44 decision on the road at Ball State University Tuesday, Jan. 20. The Broncos are paced by junior guard David Kool at 16.5 points a game while senior guard Shawntes Gary is averaging 10.5 points. The Broncos, the 2008 MAC West Division champion, is the pre-season favorite to win the 2009 West Division title. After Saturday's, Jan. 24, WMU game the Eagles hit the road for a Tuesday, Jan. 27, cross-divisional game at Kent State University.EMU 's 84-77 double-overtime win over a visiting Central Michigan University team at home in the Convocation Center Tuesday, Jan. 13, was the first overtime game for the Eagles since a 75-72 loss, Dec. 29, 2007, against Texas A&M Corpus Christi in the second game of the Islander Invitational in Corpus Christi, Texas. The previous overtime victory came at Central Michigan, March 2, 2007, when the Eagles captured an 87-83 win. The last double-overtime win was Feb. 28, 1996 when Eastern recorded an 81-77 victory over a visiting Ohio University squad. EMU now has a 10-10 record in the last 20 overtime games. Redshirt sophomore Brandon Bowdry (St. Louis, Mo.-Taylor (Mich.) Truman) was named the Mid-American Conference Men's Basketball West Division Player of the Week for the period ending Jan. 18. This marked Bowdry's first career MAC weekly award. Bowdry averaged 18 points, 10 rebounds, two steals and one assist to help EMU go 1-1 in MAC action last week. He turned in a double-double with 22 points and 14 rebounds in an 84-77 double-overtime win over instate rival Central Michigan University, Jan. 13, and followed that up with 14 points, six rebounds, two steals and two assists in a 69-57 loss at the University of Toledo, Jan. 17.
