Eagles and Vikings Set for Sunday Bout at Bowen

Eastern can even up home record with win
YPSILANTI, Mich.– The Eastern Michigan University wrestling team is finishing up its final few days of practice before a Sunday, Jan. 11, matinée tussle with the Vikings of Cleveland State University at Bowen Field House. The match is set for 3 p.m. The Eagles come into the new calendar year with a 3-6 record while the Vikings currently own a 3-5 season mark.
Third-year head coach Derek DelPorto leads his team into the second half of the season with high hopes of a strong finish. “Coming off a short but well deserved break should help us get refocused for a very challenging stretch of competition to start off this semester,” DelPorto remarked. “Hopefully we can get a win in our first meet of the new year and get our sails pointed in the right direction.”
Last season, the Eagles defeated the Vikings, 22-12, Jan. 12, in Cleveland, Ohio. A second consecutive Eagle victory would even their 2008-09 home record at 1-1.
Sunday's home match will be the second of three at Bowen for the Eagles during the 2008-09 campaign. The final clash at Bowen is slated for Sunday, Feb. 15, when the Eagles battle Kent State in an inter-conference bout at 4 p.m.
More than 550 fans packed Bowen for the Dec. 5 match against Michigan State. Come out, support your Eagles, and watch some hard-hitting wrestling action!
