YPSILANTI, Mich. — The fifth annual Eastern Michigan University football golf outing is set for Monday, June 16, 2008, at Eagle Crest Golf Course in Ypsilanti.

The golf outing is sponsored by the E-Gridiron Group (EGG) which was formed in the spring of 2006 with its early focus set on building a leadership level of fund-raising support for EMU football. During the past two years the EGG has helped to raise more than $600,000. This is the largest amount of actual gifts received to date for a non-facility related project by a single group in EMU Athletics history. This has helped to provide the football program with numerous upgrades and is helping to level the playing field with the rest of the Mid-American Conference.

"The E-Gridiron Group has been an invaluable resource for the football program and our student-athletes," said Director of Athletics Dr. Derrick Gragg. "Our mission is to guide support and inspire our student-athletes in their pursuit of excellence, academically, athletically and socially. The generosity and efforts of the EGG allows us to fulfill that mission and has a direct and significant impact on the quality of experience we are able to provide to our football players."

"Our annual golf outing is a great event and is a very important part of our EMU football program," fifth year head football coach Jeff Genyk said. "It is a time to reconnect with former teammates and meet the members of the coaching staff and current team. The efforts of the E-Gridiron Group and the annual golf outing, coupled with those of the coaches and players, will get EMU football back to a championship level."

Since that official beginning in 2006, the EGG has expanded its goals and objectives to include not only fund-raising, but developing a broader membership program targeted at former football players, which will eventually be expanded to all family and fans of EMU football in future years. More than 250 former football players have joined in just the past six months of this membership drive.

"One of the purposes of forming the E-Gridiron Group was to fill a void and create a rallying point for former players and EMU supporters," said Brett Petersmark, E-Gridiron Group President. "The EGG provides an opportunity for people to have an immediate impact on the Football program by giving back, helping to build positive momentum, and really allows them to share in the growth and success of the Football program and the University. I am so excited about how the E-Gridiron Group has been received and in its growth. Becoming a member really makes you feel like a teammate again and it has helped to bring old friends and teammates back together. We have heard time and time again from the current team and coaching staff how much they appreciate our support and how important the EGG’s contributions have been in their pursuit of a MAC Championship. Spreading the word about the EGG and having a venue for alumni to share their successes and become engaged with the Football program again has been so rewarding. Watching former players laughing, hugging old friends and yelling on the sidelines in support of more Gridiron success…Growing Green hasn’t been this exciting in a long time. I am so very proud to represent this Group".

The cost for this year’s EGG Football Golf Outing is $150 for an individual golfer and $600 per foursome. In addition, there are several sponsorship opportunities, and the dinner will feature a silent auction with numerous autographed pieces of memorabilia.
