YPSILANTI, Mich. — The Eastern Michigan University and Cleveland State University baseball teams combined for 24 runs on 30 hits today, April 7, at Oestrike Stadium in Ypsilanti, Mich., with CSU walking away with the 15-9 victory. Freshman Matt Skirving (Midland, Mich.-H.H. Dow) paced the Eagles, going 4-for-4 at the plate with two homeruns for four RBI and two runs scored.

Freshman Matt Skirving (Midland, Mich.-H.H. Dow) paced the Eagles, going 4-for-4 at the plate with two homeruns for four RBI and two runs scored.
The Eagles fall to 7-20, 5-1 MAC after today’s loss while the Vikings improve to 9-12. Starting pitcher Bobby Henderson (Milford, Mich.-Detroit Catholic) was charged with the loss after giving up six earned runs in three and a third innings pitched.
Cleveland State opened the game with a three-run first, powered behind the first of three Alex Kerins homeruns. EMU fought back in the bottom half of the frame to take a 4-3 lead. Back-to-back doubles by Zack Leonard (Canton, Ohio-McKinley) and Steve Bradshaw (Lapeer, Mich.-West) cut the deficit to 3-2 before Aaron Powell’s (Clarkston, Mich.-Clarkston) two-run blast to right center propelled the Eagles to a 4-3 lead.
The Vikings regained the lead at 7-4 with a four-run fourth and added another seven runs in the top half of the fifth inning to go up 14-4. Skirving drove in both EMU runs in the bottom of the fifth with his two-run shot to center field, cutting the CSU lead to 14-6. The Eagles added two more in the sixth and one in the eighth, but came no closer then 14-9 as Cleveland State added one final run in the ninth to take the game 15-9.
The Eagles resume action tomorrow, hosting Saginaw Valley at Oestrike Stadium. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
