ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The Eastern Michigan University baseball completed its two-game mini-series with cross town rival University of Michigan today, April 16, falling 20-5 to the No. 21 ranked team in the country. The Wolverines scored at least one run in each of the first five innings of play, including an eight-run second and a four-run third and accumulated 23 hits on the day.

The Wolverines scored at least one run in each of the first five innings of play, including an eight-run second and a four-run third and accumulated 23 hits on the day.
With the loss, EMU drops to 10-24, 7-2 MAC while Michigan improves to 24-8, 11-1 Big Ten.
After one inning of play, the Eagles and Wolverines were knotted at one. EMU got on the board in the top of the first when junior Aaron Powell (Clarkston, Mich.-Clarkston) singled down the right-field line, scoring Kyle Rhoad (Fostoria, Ohio-Elmwood) who led the game off with a triple to deep right center. UM bounced back, with lead-off hitter Derek VanBuskirk reaching on a single and later scoring on a sacrifice fly to left-field by Zach Putnam.
The Michigan offense exploded in the second and third innings, scoring eight and four runs respectively. UM tacked on two more runs in both the fourth and fifth innings, increasing its lead to 17-1.
The Eagles put up two runs in the sixth and the eighth, bringing the score to 20-5 in favor of the Maize and Blue. UM held on for the win in the ninth, with Sam Yashinsky retiring three of four batters faced.
The Green and White will be back in action Friday, April 18, as they welcome West Division rival Western Michigan to Oestrike Stadium for a three-game weekend series. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. Friday night.
