Senior qualifies for 50, 100 and 200 freestyle competitions

YPSILANTI, Mich. — After being named Mid-American Conference Swimmer of the Year for the third consecutive season, senior Madeleine Pilchard (Marietta, Ga.-Walton) has qualified for NCAA competition in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle races.  Pilchard was the only athlete from the MAC to qualify for national action.

Pilchard made the automatic cut in the 100 and 200 freestyle races.  She won both races at the MAC Championships (Feb. 20-23).  In the 100 freestyle, Pilchard enters the national competition ranked 19th, with her best time coming at the Championship meet.  She hit the wall in 49.02 seconds, the best time in the conference.  She also set her personal-best time of 1:46.11 in the 200 free at the MAC meet, which is good for a No. 14 ranking heading into the NCAA meet.

In the 50 freestyle, Pilchard enters the competition ranked 49th, with her fastest time of 22.94 coming in a time trial at the MAC Championships.   The mark was a provisional mark that ranks her 49th heading into NCAA competition.

The NCAA meet will take place on the campus of Ohio State University at the Bill and Mae McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion, March 20-22.
