EMU defeats Air Force for second time in three days

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — For the second time in three days the Eastern Michigan University women’s gymnastics team defeated the Air Force Academy here at Cadet West Gym in Colorado Springs, Colo. The Eagles won every event en route to their seventh win of the year, posting a 192.525-189.200 winning mark. Senior Jolene Worley (Orlando, Fla.-William R. Boone) enjoyed another standout night, winning the uneven bars, tying for first on the beam and winning the all-around with a season-high mark of 39.00.

The Eagles won every event en route to their seventh win of the year, posting a 192.525-189.200 winning mark. Senior Jolene Worley (Orlando, Fla.-William R. Boone) enjoyed another standout night, winning the uneven bars, tying for first on the beam and winning the all-around with a season-high mark of 39.00.
Both teams started off on the vault with the Eagles sweeping the top five spots. Sophomore Erin Grigg (North Bay, Ontario-Widdifield) captured first place honors, posting a season-high mark of 9.850. Senior Tawna Bennett (Jacksonville, Fla.-Edward White) finished in second with a 9.750. Tying for third place was Worley and sophomore Mickayla Balow (Blaine, Minn.-Spring Lake Park High), who tied her season-high mark with a 9.725.
EMU increased their lead in the second rotation of the night, the uneven bars. Worley posted a season-high mark of 9.750 en route to medalist honors while Jennifer Charlebois (Oshawa, Ontario-Eastdale Collegiate) tied for third with a 9.675.
On the beam the Green and White continued their dominance, taking the top three spots. Worley and junior Duyen Zu Vuong (Ottawa, Ontario-DelaSalle) tied for the top spot on the podium, carding a 9.775. Junior Monica Lucas (Winston-Salem, N.C.-Reynolds) placed third, setting a season-high mark of 9.675.
The Falcons rallied and outscored the Eagles in the final event of the night, the floor exercise, taking five of the top seven spots. Fortunately, EMU managed to post the two best scores. Balow edged teammate Worley for top honors, tying her season-high mark of 9.800. Worley finished in second with a 9.750.
For the third time this season, Worley was an all-around winner, posting a season-best mark of 39.000.
The Eagles will be back in action for their final home meet of the season, Saturday, Mar. 8, as they host the Eagle Invitational. EMU welcomes the Air Force Academy, Illinois State and conference rival Northern Illinois in the all-day event. Start time is scheduled for 1 p.m. inside Bowen Field House.
