Women's Swimming Finishes Runner-Up at EMU Invitational

Eagles accumulate 917.5 points in two-day event
YPSILANTI, Mich.- The Eastern Michigan University women’s swimming and diving team finished in second place at the EMU Invitational, Dec. 6, at Jones Natatorium. The Eagles finished the two-day event with 917.5 points, finishing runner-up to the University of Michigan.
Toledo placed third with 580.5 points, followed by Wayne State in fourth with 578 points. Kalamazoo (217), Calvin (135.5), Northern Michigan (119), Oakland (86), Findlay (81) and Alma (4) rounded out the participants.
Alissa Ricard (Tucson, Ariz.-Catalina Foothills) finished runner-up in the 200 free while Sheila Carson (Marilla, N.Y.-Iroquois) placed third in the 100 breast. Freshman Michele Gingher (Boalsburg, Pa.-State College) won the 100 back, giving EMU its first individual win of the second day of competition.
Sam Partridge (Carmel, Ind.-Carmel) placed fourth in the 500 free before Sarah Kowalski (Muncie, Ind.-Yorktown) hit the wall in 24.21 in the 50 free to give her a third place finish.
The 200 and 800 freestyle relay teams both placed second while the 400 medley relay team finished fourth to the end the day with a runner-up finish for the Eagles.
The Eagles now take some time off for finals and winter training in Orlando, Fla. EMU will be back in action in the new year, Jan. 10, at Oakland.
