Eagles sweep the weekend with a win over the Musketeers

YPSILANTI, Mich.- The Eastern Michigan University men’s swimming and diving team made it a weekend sweep, defeating the Xavier University Musketeers, 145-104, Saturday, Nov. 8 at Jones Natatorium. The Eagles dropped only one event before the meet went to exhibition scoring.
The 400 medley relay team of Alan Duski (Zagreb, Croatia-Sports), Sam Dolato (Howell, Mich.-Howell), Ryan Fulkerson (South Lyon, Mich.-South Lyon) and Derick Roe (Sidney, Ohio-Sidney) started the afternoon off with a win, hitting the wall almost five seconds ahead of the runner-up Xavier team. Dan Kish (Trenton, Mich.-Trenton) then won the 1,000 free, as he was the only swimmer to break the 10-minute mark (9:48.67). Duski, Drew Little (Papillion, Neb.-Papillion) and Mark Kurtzer (Newmarket, Ont.-Dr. Denison) swept the top three spots of the 100 backstroke before Scott Murphy (Houston, Texas-Cypress), Troy Esentan (North Little Rock, Ark.-Central) and Dolato did the same in the 100 breaststroke.
Fulkerson then picked up his first individual event win of the afternoon in the 200 fly with Roe capturing the 50 and 100 freestyle events. Duski won the 200 backstroke, marking his second individual victory of the meet. EMU then swept the top three spots in the 200 breaststroke, sending the meet into exhibition scoring.
The Eagles will be back in action Friday, Nov. 14 when they travel to West Lafayette, Ind. to take on Purdue University, Ohio State University and Washington State University in a quad-meet. The two-day meet will take place at Purdue University with the teams hitting the pool at 6 p.m. on Friday, with the meet concluding Saturday, Nov. 15 at noon.
