EAGLES LOOK TO STAY PERFECT AGAINST BUFFALO: The Eastern Michigan University women’s swimming and diving team has never dropped a dual meet to the University at Buffalo and looks to make it 13 straight against the Bulls Friday, Nov. 7. The two teams met last year in Buffalo, N.Y. (Nov. 9, 2007), when the Eagles came away with a 144-97 victory. This season, UB is 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the MAC. Last weekend, Buffalo fell to Miami before picking up its first win ever against defending MAC Champion Ohio.
DOUBLE THE FUN: The Eagles continue MAC action Saturday, Nov. 8 when Akron comes to town for a 2 p.m. start. The Zips split their MAC meets last weekend, picking up a win over Ohio before falling to Miami. Before heading to Ypsilanti, UA will take on Ball State in Muncie (Nov. 7). Xavier University will also be competing in the double dual meet, marking the first time since the 1997-98 season the Eagles and Musketeers will be squaring off. The Musketeers come to EMU with a 1-4 overall record, dropping meets to Marshall, East Carolina, West Virginia and Miami while picking up a win against Valparaiso.
FIRST WEEKEND REWIND: The Eagles split their first weekend of the 2008-09 season, defeating Bowling Green before falling to Toledo. Against Bowling Green, EMU won 173-125 to record its first win of the season. After dropping three of the first four events, the Eagles won four of the next five and never looked back in the win. Against Toledo, the Eagles won five individual events, but it was not enough to defeat the Rockets, who picked up a 162-126 victory. Alissa Ricard led the way for EMU on the weekend, winning two individual events in both meets.
FOR THE 33RD TIME: The 2008-09 season marks the 33rd season in Eastern Michigan University women’s swimming and diving. The program was started in 1976 under head Mike Cook with the Eagles going 5-3-1 in the inaugural year. EMU has had eight coaches throughout the years, with Peter Linn taking over in 2004. As women’s coach, Linn has helped the Eagles to two Mid-American Conference Championships while boasting a 35-11 overall record and a 25-9 MAC mark in four years.
CSCAA ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICAN TEAM: The women’s swimming and diving team was selected as one of the Academic All-American teams by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America. The Eagles carried a 3.469 GPA during the 2007-08 season, placing them 12th in the country in overall GPA.
JONESIN’ FOR EMU: The Eagles will have six home meets, including the annual EMU Invitational, at Jones Natatorium this season. The first meet is a co-ed meet against Buffalo, set for Friday, Nov. 7, at 5 p.m.
