Men's Golf Closes Out the Fall With a Fifth Place Showing

Senior Christopher Ross ties for fifth at the Reese Jones Intercollegiate
DAUFUSKIE ISLAND, Mich. – The inaugural Rees Jones Intercollegiate concluded today at the par 72, 7,380 yard Haig Point Club, with the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team in fifth place with a 54-hole total of 908 (304-298-306). Senior Christopher Ross (Dundas, Ontario-Parkside) led the way for the Eagles with a five-over par 221 (79-69-73). Ross' fifth place showing was his best of the fall and marked the third time in his distinguished EMU career that he has placed a tournament's top five.
The University of South Carolina, ranked No. 7 in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, took the team title with a three-round total of 15-over par 879. Georgia State University and San Diego State University tied for second at 36-over. The Gamecocks' Wesley Bryan and Paul Woodbury tied for the individual crown at two-over par 218.
Junior Marty Jeppesen (Saline, Mich.-Saline) notched rounds of 73, 79 and 74 for a two-day total of 226 in a tie for 11th place. Sophomore Brad Larente (Cambridge, Ontario-Hespeler Secondary) finished tied for 27th with 232 (74-75-83) while junior Brandon Lemons (Portage, Mich.-Portage Central) carded a 234 (78-75-81) in 31st place. Junior Cam Burke (Baden, Ontario-Waterloo Secondary) rounded out the lineup with a 238 (80-80-78) in a tie for 40th.
The Eagles will now put their clubs away for a few months before returning to the links March 6-7, 2009, at the annual Ron Smith/USF Invitational in Dade City, Fla.
