JAMAICA, N.Y. – The Eastern Michigan University men’s basketball team will wrap up the Dick’s Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off tournament tonight, Tuesday, Nov. 25, when they take on Cornell University (3-2) at 5:45 p.m. at Carnesecca Arena on the campus of St. John’s University.
The Eagles look to rebound from last night’s 73-61 loss to the Red Storm from St. John’s University.

EMU-CORNELL MEET FOR FOURTH TIME: The Eagles will wrap up the NIT Tip-Off tournament this evening when they take on Cornell University at 5:45 p.m. at Carnesecca Arena on the campus of St. John’s University. Eastern has posted a 2-1 mark all-time against the Big Red, but the two teams have not met since December 2, 1978 when Cornell claimed a 91-82 overtime victory over EMU in Ypsilanti. However, a season prior, EMU registered a 68-55 win over the Big Red in Ithaca, N.Y.
Behind 26 points from Geoff Reeves, the Big Red claimed a 78-53 win over Loyola (Ill.) yesterday at the Dick’s Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off. Reeves nailed five three-pointers and finished 10-of-14 from the field in the win, while center Jeff Foote finished with 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

STAYING IN THE IVY LEAGUE: After today’s meeting with Cornell, the Eagles will travel to Providence, R.I. for a non-conference tilt against the Bears from Brown University on Saturday, Nov. 29, at 1 p.m. Last season, the Bears handed the Eagles a 74-55 loss in EMU’s home opener, as Wendale Farrow scored a team-high 15 points in the game. The Bears finished with an 11-3 mark in the Ivy League last year, while Cornell finished 14-0 in the Ivy League and ended Penn’s three-year run by claiming the Ivy League title. The Big Red would earn a No. 14 seed in the NCAA Tournament, but would fall to No. 3 seeded Stanford, 77-53, in the first round.

OFF THE BENCH: In their last game against St. John’s, the Eagles had solid contributions from the bench, as the EMU reserves outscored the St. John’s reserves, 21-16. Freshman forward Branden Harrison scored 12 points and recorded a career-high four blocks in 29 minutes off the bench, while senior Zane Gay scored seven points and grabbed a team-high six rebounds in 25 minutes.

FRESHMAN SUCCESS: Several EMU freshmen players have found success earlier on in their collegiate careers. Redshirt freshman point guard L.J. Frazier is playing a team-high 30.4 minutes per-game this season and is shooting a team-best 42.1 percent (8-of-19) from beyond the arc. Freshman Branden Harrison is off to a solid start this season, averaging 7.4 points in five games. Harrison recorded a career-high four blocks against St. John’s and is second on the team in blocks this season (6).
