Ran career-best 23:51 at the Notre Dame Invitational
CLEVELAND, Ohio.- Eastern Michigan University senior men's cross country runner Josh Karanja (Ottawa, Canada-Nepean) was named the Mid-American Conference Runner of the Week for the period ending Oct. 6. This marks Karanja's third career cross country weekly award.
Karanja made his 2008 season debut a good one at the Notre Dame Invitational. He finished 10th overall with a career-best time of 23:51 and recorded the best finish by a MAC runner. The Eagles finished 10th as a team in the prestigious Gold Division, the best by any MAC school at the meet, and were the fourth-best Great Lakes Regional team, with Butler (fifth overall) leading the way, followed by host Notre Dame (sixth), Michigan (ninth) and EMU. A total of five Eagles broke the 25-minute mark over the weekend, leading EMU to a seventh-place ranking in the latest USTFCCCA Great Lakes Regional poll.
The Eagles will return to action Friday, Oct. 10, for the Michigan Intercollegiate to race the state of Michigan’s finest teams. The meet is set to begin at 4 p.m. at Kensington Park in Milford, Mich.
