Women's Golf Closes Out Fall Campaign with a Third Place Showing

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Senior Stephany Fleet (Dewitt. Mich.-Dewitt) fired a three-over-par 219 (74-73-72) to finish in third place here at the LPGA International Xavier Invitational on the par 72, 6,065-yard LPGA Legends Course, Oct. 12. Fleet’s finish marked her 18th career top 10 finish and her third top five finish of the 2008 fall campaign.
As a team, the Eagles third with a team score of 905 (299-306-300) as Yale University took home the tournament title carding a 902 (305-296-301). Florida Atlantic University came in second with a 903 (303-301-299). Lamar University's Therese Nilsson shot a final round 71 to claim medalist honors with a 54-hole total of 215 (72-72-71). Nilsson held a two-stroke lead going into the final round and posted the only sub-par round of the day and just the third of the tournament en route to a three-stroke victory over Praewnapa Phol-uayporn of FAU.
Sophomore Darby Peters (Lake Orion, Mich.-Lake Orion) followed with a 224 (71-78-75) in seventh place , while senior Courtney Aili (Chelsea, Mich.-Chelsea) added a 227 (75-76-76) in a tie for 16th. Junior Marjorie Thuot (Joliette, Ouebec-Therese-Martin) and sophomore Stephanie Bevington (Ossosso, Mich.-Owosso) rounded out the lineup with a 238 (79-82-77) and a 252 (80-79-93), respectively.
Eastern Michigan will return to action when it opens its spring schedule Feb. 9-10, 2007 at the Lady Braveheart Classic in Beaumont, Calif.
