Eagles Drop 65-52 Decision to Miami

OXFORD, Ohio — The Eastern Michigan University men’s basketball team fell behind early and never fully recovered as Miami University recorded a 65-52 Mid-American Conference cross-divisional game here Saturday afternoon in Millett Hall.
Prior to today’s game the Eagles (7-11; 3-3 MAC) had played its first five games against fellow West Division foes. Their first foray into the East Division ended with the RedHawks (8-10; 2-4 MAC) racing to a 43-25 halftime lead and never looking back en route to the 13-point win.
Junior point guard Carlos Medlock (Detroit, Mich.-Murray Wright) led the Eagles with 15 points while sophomore center Justin Dobbins (Cleveland, Ohio-Glenville) added 12 points. Senior Tim Pollitz paced the RedHawks with 22 points with Hayes adding 18.
After Miami built a 43-25 halftime lead, the Eagles came out of intermission on fire, with Dobbins scoring four straight baskets to spark a Green and White comeback.
Miami came right back and forged a 21-point lead, 59-38, with 8:32 left in the game before the Eagles would bring it back to a 13-point deficit, 61-48, with just 6:29 remaining on two foul shots by Wendale Farrow (Sacramento, Calif.-Mira Loma-American River C.C.).
The RedHawks would hold on to its advantage the rest of the way for the 13-point win.
Miami jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead to start the game before Medlock hit a reverse layup for the Eagles. The RedHawks bumped its advantage to 14, 32-18, at the 7:17 mark with five 3-point field goals in six offensive possessions. Miami added to its lead with 4:04 left in the half when Pollitz was credited with a basket on a goal tend for a 36-20 lead.
The home team increased its lead to 20, 43-23, with one minute left in the half, but Dobbins hit a banked jumper from the free-throw line at the buzzer to make it 43-25 in favor of the RedHawks at intermission.
Medlock led the Eagles with 10 while Dobbins added six in the first half. Miami was led by Hayes with 13, on four three-pointers and two free throws. Tim Pollitz added 12 for the RedHawks.
