MAC ROAD OPENER: The Eastern Michigan University football team opens its 2007 Mid-American Conference road schedule Saturday, Sept. 15, in an 11 a.m. (CDT) start at Northern Illinois.
32nd MAC SEASON: The 2007 season is the 32nd year of Mid-American Conference action for the Eastern Michigan University football team. Eastern was admitted into the MAC in 1971, but a complete MAC football schedule could not be cleared until 1976.
RETURN TO ILLINOIS: Redshirt sophomore offensive lineman Ross Petersen (Homewood, Ill.-Flossmoor) is the only Illinois product on the 2007 EMU football roster but several EMU coaches have state of Illinois ties. Eagles' head coach Jeff Genyk, assistants Howard Feggins, Jay Peterson, Jarvis Adams and Jim O'Neil all spent time as Northwestern University assistants, while Adams was also a player for the Wildcats.
OUT TO SNAP THE STREAK: EMU will be out to snap a six-game Northern Illinois winning streak and a four-game Huskie victory string in DeKalb when EMU and NIU square off Saturday, Sept. 15.
116th SEASON OPENER: The EMU at Pitt football game, Saturday, Sept. 1, was the 116th season-opening game for the Eagles and they now hold a 52-56-8 record in lid-lifters.
CAPTAINS NAMED: EMU will have five captains for the 2007 season. The captains, as voted by the players, are: Ken Bohnet (Grand Ledge, Mich.-Grand Ledge), Jason Jones (Southfield, Mich.-Lathrup), Darran Matthews (Redford, Mich.-Thurston), Andy Schmitt (St. John's. Mich.-St. John's), and Pierre Walker (Detroit, Mich.-Central).
SMALL SENIOR CLASS: The senior class is the smallest group on the 2007 Eagles' roster. A total of 11 seniors will be suiting up for the last time for the Green and White this fall.
