Eagles’ shortstop earns another school first

YPSILANTI, Mich. — Eastern Michigan University softball senior Lauren Clark was named to the 2007 Easton All-American third team, Easton Sports, Inc. announced Sunday morning. Clark becomes the first player in school history to be named to the Easton All-American squad. The postseason accolades continue collect for Clark, who earlier was named first team All-Region for the second consecutive season and was also named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Year for the second straight season.

Clark joins EMU Hall of Famer Angie Fielder as the only two players in school history to be named to an All-American team. Fielder was named to the All-America second team following the 1988 campaign.

Along with becoming the league’s third ever two-time MAC Player of the Year award winner and school’s first repeat All-Region selection, Clark has been named first team All-MAC and to the MAC All-Tournament team each for the second straight season. She is the EMU career home run record holder with 24. She also ranks third all-time in career doubles (40), runs (101) and RBI (94).

In conference games, Clark batted .433 with 18 runs, 10 doubles, a triple, four home runs, 10 RBI and totaled a .791 slugging percentage. She led the league in doubles and finished second in runs scored (18) and batting average. Clark finished third in the conference in hits with 29 in league games. For the season, Clark totaled 18 multi-hits games, including recording three hits in five different contests. Clark strung together a career-high 12 game hit streak. Her first home run this season gave her sole possession of the EMU career home run record. Clark posted 11 multi-hit games against conference opponents in the 2007 season. Clark also set the EMU single-season home run record with 13 in 2006.

Clark led the Eagles to their first MAC West Division title and MAC Tournament title. During the MAC Tournament, she batted .333 (5-for-15) with four runs scored, two doubles, two RBI and a home run helping EMU clinch its first NCAA postseason tournament appearance.
